Riverdale is doing another musical episode and we cannot WAIT

Keeley Ryan

Remember when Riverdale did a musical episode last season?

Well, it looks like the students from Riverdale High are going to be tackling another iconic film through song and dance this year.

Yes, that’s right: on March 20 (so, March 21 on Netflix), Riverdale will be taking on a musical version of the film, Heathers.

The series’ executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said to EW that while they had a “blast” doing Carrie last year, they wanted to pay tribute to another iconic teen movie.

He said:

“This year, we wanted to honour another iconic teen movie. Heathers: The Musicalis BIG FUN, with great roles for the Riverdale kids.”

And it looks like there’s going to be a bit of change compared to last season’s musical (besides the whole Black Hood thing, obviously).

“And everyone is singing this time,” Aguirre-Sacasa added.

A list of which roles the characters are going to be playing in the musical was also revealed, seemingly confirming the resolution to the most recent episode’s cliffhanger – which you can read more about here.

Betty, Veronica and Cheryl are playing Heather Duke, Heather McNamara and Heather Chandler respectively.

Meanwhile, Josie and Sweet Pea will play Veronica Sawyer and Jason ‘J.D.’ Dean – the roles made famous by Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

About halfway down the cast list, though, is none other than Archie.

So guess that settles the mystery from the midseasons premiere.
