Riverdale viewers stunned as fan favourite character is ‘killed off’

It would definitely shake things up.

After what feels like forever, Riverdale officially returned to the small screen this week.

Although fans weren’t too happy with the latest twist in the CW drama, as a major character appeared to be killed off in the final moments of the episode.

Warning: spoilers for the newest episode of Riverdale, No Exit.

Fans  were stunned this week when Riverdale appeared to kill off one of their main characters: Archie Andrews.

Yes, really.

After surviving every single dramatic, life-changing thing that was thrown his way – like, say, The Black Hood and that fight club when he was in prison – it appeared as if the Red Paladin died after becoming the victim of a bear attack.

The final moments of the episode saw two rangers in Archie’s cabin in Canada, checking the bloodied teenager’s pulse – and, based on their facial expressions, it didn’t look too good.

Many fans took to Twitter to fume that there was “no way” Archie could have been killed by a grizzly bear – with some reckoning it wasn’t even a grizzly that attacked him.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this is some kind of fake out,  like when F.P. walked out of the woods carrying Jughead’s body last season.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently revealed that it was going to be a “very changed Riverdale” in the second half of season three.

He said:

“It’s been pretty breakneck pacing up through [episode] 8 and we’re doing a little bit of a time jump between the midseason finale and our premiere.

“It’s definitely a changed Riverdale. It’s almost like a town under occupation. It’s very totalitarian. It’s very lawless. And there are a lot of people who are really scared.

“It’s about our forces of good kind of coming together to face the various threats.

“That said, it’s a little bit of a slower burn when we get back. We do some more character stories. We do some more relationship stories.

“We’re even doing an episode that’s focused on the kids taking the SAT because, quarantine or not quarantine, junior year continues and the kids have to take the SATs!”
