When you think about it, filming a music biopic is never an easy task. Often the people they are depicting are so iconic, it is difficult to imagine anyone could take on the role. However, these actors and actresses have certainly proved the contrary. Here are nine of our favourite music biopics.
1. Walk the Line
Based on the life and career of Johnny Cash, Walk the Line was one of the sweetest stories to ever make it to the screen. Witherspoon dazzled as June and Phoenix as the Man in Black.
2. Ray Charles
Tragically, Ray lost his brother at quite a young age, which is heartbreakingly depicted in the 2004 film. Despite all the obstacles he faced, Charles still managed to become a global superstar.
3. What's Love Got To Do With It?
Removing herself from a very violent domestic situation was one of the most difficult steps Tina Turner had to make. Penniless and broken, the singer went through a massive career turnaround in the 80's. What's Love Got To Do With It? is perhaps one of the most underrated music biopics in existence.
4. Amadeus
Listed by many as being their favourite film of all time, Amadeus is a very eccentric biopic told from the point of view of one of the great Mozart's rivals. Absolutely worth checking out.
5. Almost Famous
While not necessarily a biopic, Almost Famous eventually racked up a bill of 3.5 million dollars for its soundtrack. It's also worth it for this clip alone.
6. This Is Spinal Tap
A cult classic, Spinal Tap is arguably the greatest mocumentary of all time. Hilariously funny and sometimes bang on the button, Tap takes the notion of the rock band as gods to the extreme.
7. The Doors
Although a little bit longer than it should be, The Doors is still included in a collection of Oliver Stone films that really are his greatest work. The film reached cult status due to its iconic main character. Val Kilmer has never really been better.
8. La Vie en Rose
Cotillard deservedly picked up the Oscar for her portrayal of the somewhat tragic Edith Piaf, one of France's best known national treasures.
9. Beyond the Sea
Kevin Spacey depicts Bobby Darin, the singer best known for his hit Mack the Knife, and his relationship with his wife, Sandra Dee. The best thing about this, Kevin Spacey. All of the Kevin Spacey.
