Sam Taylor-Johnson has reportedly confirmed that she will not be returning as director for the Fifty Shades of Grey sequels.

Despite having huge success with the first film, she has decided to leave the franchise based on the best-selling books by EL James.

She released the following statement to Deadline: “Directing Fifty Shades of Grey has been an intense and incredible journey for which I am hugely grateful. I have Universal to thank for that.

“I forged close and lasting relationships with the cast, producers and crew and most especially, with Dakota and Jamie.

“I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three.”

It was previously reported that Taylor-Johnson and James had clashed on numerous occasions about the big screen adaptation of the first novel.

No other names are in the frame to take over the project but it is believed, despite rumours, that Jamie Dornan and Dakotan Johnson will be back.
