Sarah Jessica Parker just gave the nod to a new Irish author

Well deserved.

Laura Holland

Well deserved.

It’s not very often a celebrity as high profile as Sarah Jessica Parker gives a shout out on social media without being paid to do so. These days when it comes to posts relating to products or endorsements, they stand out very obviously on a celebrity’s timeline because they are usually forced and clearly paid for.

But then there are the genuine few, like SJP, who take the time to recommend something they genuinely liked and want other people to enjoy.

This time around, she chose to promote an Irish author, Lisa McInerney, and her book The Glorious Heresies. Lisa’s debut novel won the 2016 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction and the 2016 Desmond Elliott Prize. The story centres around life in Cork during the recession and the murder of a man, Robbie O’Donovan, at the hand of the mother of a crime boss.

Sarah Jessica Parker liked the book so much that she took to Instagram to say:

A book and tale to be reckoned with. Ms. McInerney should pull up a seat next to McPherson, McCann, McCourt and all the Irish greats.
I gobbled this up and mourned the last page. Completely fulfilling, devastating and perfectly captures life in the city of Cork.
“Fecking” Brilliant.

She included a photo of the book alongside this beautiful review.

What a hero.
