A second season of Big Little Lies has FINALLY been confirmed

Big Little Lies is getting even bigger.

There’s been plenty of are-they-or-aren’t-they speculation over the fate of Big Little Lies since the first series wrapped earlier this year.

And now in news that’s sure to delight fans, HBO has officially confirmed a second season of the limited series.

Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman reprise their roles as Madeline and Celeste, respectively.

HBO said that most of the cast is expected to return, with negotiations currently underway.

Meanwhile, David E. Kelley will return to write the season, based a story created by the author of the Big Little Lies novel, Liane Moriarty.

The second season will be directed by Andrea Arnold.

Reese Witherspoon said:

“It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them.

“I’m beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm.

“Andrea’s unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team.”

Nicole Kidman said that the second season was inspired by “the overwhelming response by audiences around the world”.

She added:

“What a journey this has been. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends.”

The network did not confirm when the seven episode second series would air.
