“You’re going to love it.”
Sesame Street turned 48 this week, and they decided to mark the monumental occasion in a very special way.
The beloved children’s TV show shared a clip from the first ever episode, which aired on November 10, 1969, on Friday evening.
The clip kicked off with local teacher Gordon, initially played by Garrett Saunders, introducing new girl, Sally, to the neighbourhood.
And as they go through the neighbourhood, Sally comes face-to-face with some of the series’ most iconic characters, including Big Bird, who looked very different.

Big Bird struggles to see her at first, before getting nervous when he thinks Sally is eight feet tall after she gets lifted up so he can see her.
After finding out Sally isn’t quite as tall as he thought, he stutters:
“I’m a very nervous bird. I nearly laid an egg on Sesame Street.”
Sally and her tour guide also runs into Ernie, although only his singing is heard.
He said:
“Whenever you hear Ernie singing, you can bet he’s taking a bath.”
The show shared the throwback clip on Twitter, where they wrote alongside it:
