It's going to shake things up.

In case you haven’t heard yet, Big Little Lies is coming back for a season two.

HBO confirmed the news fans had been hoping for for months on Friday night as they announced the seven-episode series.

But beyond finding out that Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon would both be returning, and that director Andrea Arnold would be joining the show, most of the details for season two were kept under wraps.

The hotly anticipated mini-series will follow a new story by author Liane Moriarty when it returns, with production reported to begin in March.

And it looks like there’s already a number of new faces who could be joining the ladies of Monterey next season.

According to Vulture, the search is already underway for four new characters to join the second season of the HBO drama.

First is Michael Perkins, a new second-grade teacher at Otter Bay Elementary School.

Mr Perkins aims to cultivate global and social consciousness in his young students – but things get a bit bumpy when his lessons on global warming cause Renata’s daughter, Amabella, to have a panic attack.

Next up is a new employee in the school administration office who befriends Jane (Shailene Woodley).

The new pals end up becoming so close that they eventually learn about each other’s “deepest secrets”.

Last but by no means least: Bonnie’s parents, Elizabeth and Martin Howard.

Elizabeth is described as someone who passed her outwardly Zen qualities to her daughter, Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) but ultimately ends up showing herself to be controlling and abusive.

Meanwhile, Martin is emotionally distant to his daughter but, following a family emergency, he finally addresses the strain between them.
