There’s a new Hollywood star in the running for one of the most iconic roles in cinema.
Homeland star Damian Lewis is hotly tipped to take over as legendary British spy James Bond when the current lead Daniel Craig steps down.
UK bookmakers William Hill have installed the red-haired star as favourite to portray 007 next, leading many to suspect the appointment is a done deal.
The news follows strong rumours that forthcoming Bond film Spectre will be Craig’s last.
Lewis has now taken over as front-runner for the role from former favourite Idris Elba and other contenders Tom Hardy and Henry Cavill, along with Irish star Michael Fassbender.
Elba said earlier this year: “If there was ever any chance of me getting Bond, it’s gone”.
Craig will return as the seductive spy in Spectre, due in cinemas this November.
