The cast for the Sunrise on the Reaping movie has been revealed

The Sunrise on the Reaping movie will be released in 2026

After selling 1.5 million copies in its first week, Sunrise on the Reaping became an instant hit with fans of the beloved series.

It comes as no surprise to see Lionsgate start working on a film adaptation of the best-selling novel.

But fans have been desperately waiting to find out who will play a young Haymitch Abernathy in the movie.

Many fans suggested putting a backwards cap on Woody Harrelson, who played Haymitch in the original Hunger Games, but the film's team went with another actor.

Young Haymitch Abernathy will be played by Joseph Zada, Deadline has revealed.

They have also revealed the actress who will play Lenore Dove.

It is understood that hundreds of actors auditioned for the role, but Zada landed the sought-after role.

Whitney Peak has also been cast in the highly anticipated movie and will play Haymitch's girlfriend, Lenore Dove Baird.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-President Erin Westerman told Deadline:

"His relationship with Lenore Dove is deeply woven into the emotional history of Panem. We can’t wait for fans to experience the story that shaped one of the most compelling characters in the series."

Sunrise on the Reaping takes place 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games. The film focuses on Haymitch Abernathy's life and his games.

Sunrise on the Reaping lands in theatres on November 20th, 2026.
