The Avengers Wins Big At The MTV Movie Awards

The MTV Movie Awards took place last night in the Sony Pictures Studio Lot in Culver City and this year, the superheroes won big. Besides The Avengers, the other big winner for the night was the sweet and wonderful Silver Linings Playbook.

The Awards are usually a good indicator of what is working in Hollywood or what’s not as the fans are the people who vote for the winners, unlike most other award ceremonies. Joss Whedon even commented that "This is the award that means the most to me. I am so grateful and very excited for 2015; we're going to bring you Avengers 2."

Bradley Cooper was another big winner on the night, taking home the popcorn gong for his role in Silver Linings Playbook and the award for best kiss, along with his co-star Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence herself wasn’t present to pick up the award with Cooper, much to the crowd’s dismay. Cooper commented: "Thanks so much. Jen's not here. I'm sorry. I know. But, she was great to kiss." Lawrence also picked up the award for best performance for her role in the film.

Rebel Wilson, who opened and closed the show, won the best breakthrough award for her role in the hilarious Pitch Perfect.  She was also part of the crew which scooped the gong for Best Musical Moment for the same film.

Emma Watson received the Trailblazer Award where she was honoured for her film choices to date including Harry Potter, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and the upcoming Bling Ring.

Perhaps the funniest award of the evening went to Taylor Lautner who won the Best Shirtless Award, which he accepted while wearing a fake beer gut stuffed under a t-shirt.

However, the biggest winner of the night was the superhero film The Avengers which took home the top award for Best Film. On top of that, the film also won the Best Fight Scene award while Tom Hiddleston won Best Villain for his performance as Loki.
