The Backstreet Boys have announced the news that fans have been hoping for

Backstreet really is back.

In another round of ’90s nostalgia, The Backstreet Boys are officially releasing new music.

Brian, A.J., Nick, Howie and Kevin had been teasing fans with a mini-social media countdown, which kicked off on Friday night.

It all ended when, on Monday, the pop band confirmed that they are dropping Don’t Go Breaking My Heart on Thursday, May 17 – their first new music since 2013.

And fans (understandably) went absolutely nuts.

Alongside a photo of the cover art, they tweeted:

“Excuse the dad joke but… we’re back.

“NEW BACKSTREET BOYS SINGLE ‘DON’T GO BREAKING MY HEART‘ OUT MAY 17TH.”

One person wrote:

“Yeessssssss!!!!! Finally @backstreetboys I have loved you guys since I was 13 and [I am] a lot older now and love you more.”

Someone else added:

“OMG OMG OMG. My life has been complete. I love y’all so much.”

Another person commented:

“I’ve been listening to you guys for 20+ years!!! So excited for the new single!”

Others were quick to point out that a single could mean a new album on the way – which may also possibly mean a tour.

Tagging a pal, one social media user wrote:

“They’re back! Does this maybe mean another tour? You know we’d have to go again!”

A “fan for 20 years” added:

“Can’t wait for the single, album and tour to follow!”

The band are expected to return to their Las Vegas residency, The Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life, at the Zappos Theatre later this summer.
