The first photos from Riverdale’s Luke Perry tribute episode are here and we’re not ready

The first photos from season four of Riverdale are finally here.

The CW drama is set to return to telly screens early next month with a tribute to Luke Perry, who played Fred Andrews.

The 52-year-old – who played Fred Andrews on the CW series – passed away in March, five days after he suffered a stroke.

The first episode of the upcoming season, titled In Memoriam, will serve as a tribute to both Perry and his character, Fred.

While there aren’t many details as to what the plot will be, we’ve now gotten our first look at what is going to be happening.

And the first photo is heartbreaking. It shows a tearful Mary hugging Archie and, honestly, we don’t think we’re prepared to watch it play out on screen.

The other photos show the gang looking up at the sky, although just what they are looking at – a tribute to Fred? A fireworks display? – isn’t clear.

And while we know that the tribute episode will no doubt be a tear-jerker, we’re hoping for a quick resolution to that massive season three cliffhanger when Riverdale does return.

In case you need a refresher of what went down, it all ended with the Fab Four sharing a milkshake toast at Pop’s, promising that their senior year wouldn’t involve them having to solve any murders.

A totally fair wish for their last year of high school – although it’s fairly grim that they’d even have to make that promise.

But then the episode flashed forwarded to their senior year spring break, with a blood-soaked Archie, Betty and Veronica throwing their clothes into a big bonfire.

They promise that they’re never going to speak of “this” again, before Archie throws Jughead’s beanie into the blaze.

The scene left many fans concerned about Jughead’s fate – especially as Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TVLine that fans should be “very worried” about him.
