The first teaser from season three of The Crown is finally here

The first trailer for season three of The Crown is here – and there’s a new guard sweeping into Downing Street.

Queen Elizabeth and her family are struggling to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing Britain.

From cold-war paranoia, through to the jet-set and the space age – the exuberance of the 1960s and the long hangover of the 1970s – Elizabeth and the Royals must adapt to a new, more liberated, but also more turbulent world.

Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies have been confirmed to be taking over the roles of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip from Claire Foy and Matt Smith.

Meanwhile, Helena Bonham Carter will be stepping into the role of Princess Margaret, which was previously played by Vanessa Kirby.

The series also stars Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Ben Daniels as Lord Snowdon, Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson and Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten.

The Crown Season 3 launches globally on Sunday, November 17. You can check out the trailer below.

The first look at the new season comes as Olivia Colman confessed that her “very strong eyelids” meant there was going to be a continuity error when season three lands on Netflix.

In an interview with US Vogueshe explained that she was unable to wear coloured contact lenses while filming – which left her with the wrong eye colour.

Both Queen Elizabeth II and Claire Foy’s eyes are blue, whereas Olivia’s are brown.

Recalling how tough it had been to put the contacts in, the actress said:

“It was basically like an exorcism: ‘Just hold me down and thrust it in!'”
