Benedict Cumberbatch has been nominated for a Bafta Television Award this week for his role in popular TV show Sherlock.

Cumberbatch is up for the Leading Actor award but will have to fight off stiff competition from fellow nominees James Nesbitt (The Missing), Toby Jones (Marvellous) and Jason Watkins (The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies).

Elsewhere, the nominees for Leading Actress include Sheridan Smith (Cilla), Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley), Keely Hawes (Line of Duty) and Georgina Campbell (Murdered By My Boyfriend).

The usual suspects are up for the award of Soap & Continuing Drama, including Coronation Street and EastEnders, however Emmerdale missed out on a nomination while Hollyoaks received its first nomination in over 10 years. The cast and crew at Casualty are also in the mix for this one.

Meanwhile Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Dynamo: Magician Impossible, Strictly Come Dancing and The Voice are all hoping to scoop the title of best Entertainment Programme.

For the International award, popular Netflix show House of Cards will go head-to-head with The Good Wife, Orange is the New Black and True Detective.

The awards ceremony will take place in London on Sunday, May 10th.
