The Power of the Ring Collection: Original Props and Costumes from Middle Earth Comes to Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons

Newbridge Silverware has announced an exclusive exhibit of unprecedented memorabilia from one of the most popular epic stories of all time to take place at the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons (MOSI) from Wednesday, October 23^rd until Sunday, November 17^th, 2013.

The Power of the Ring Collection: Original Props and Costumes from Middle Earth memorabilia will later be auctioned by the world’s premier entertainment and music memorabilia auction house, Julien’s Auctions, in Beverly Hills, California. The exhibition at the Museum of Style Icons will be the only public exhibition prior to the auction and is an exclusive opportunity to see rare memorabilia and props from the blockbuster film trilogy.

This exclusive memorabilia exhibition will give fans the opportunity to see and experience the three movies as never before (and possibly never again). The exhibition will feature many key items from the movies including Frodo’s Sword, the Shards of Narsil, Gandalf the Wizard’s Staff, High Eleven Costume Display including Sword & Scabbard, Gondorian Sword and Scabbard, Uruk Hai Sculpture, Samwise’s Hobbit Feet and Ears, Rohirrim’s Leather Helmet, and much more.  

The exhibit will open at 9am on Wednesday, October 23^rd, 2013 at the Newbridge Silverware Museum of Style Icons located in Newbridge, Co. Kildare. The daily hours for the exhibit are Monday to Saturday, 9am-6pm and Sunday and Bank Holidays 11am – 6pm.

The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy novel written by English philologist and University of Oxford professor J.R.R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to Tolkien’s 1937 children’s fantasy novel The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. It was written in stages between 1937 and 1949, much of it during World War II. It is the second best-selling novel ever written with over 150 million copies sold.

The bestseller was made into a film series consisting of three epic adventure films adapted and directed by Peter Jackson and based on the book. The films were The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003.

Considered to be one of the biggest and most ambitious film projects every undertaken, the entire project took eight years, with the filming for all three films done simultaneously and entirely in New Zealand, Peter Jackson’s native country. Set in the fictional world of Middle-earth, the three films follow the hobbit Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) as he and the Fellowship embark on a quest to destroy the One Ring and thus ensure the destruction of its maker, the Dark Lord Sauron. The Fellowship becomes divided and Frodo continues the quest together with his loyal companion Sam and the treacherous Gollum. Meanwhile Aragorn, heir in exile to the throne of Gondor, and the wizard Gandalf unite and rally the Free Peoples of Middle-earth who are ultimately victorious in the War of the Ring.  

The Power of the Ring Collection – Original Props and Costumes from Middle Earth memorabilia will then travel from Ireland to Beverly Hills California following the exclusive exhibition where it will be auctioned on Thursday, December 5, 2013.
