The team behind Bodyguard and Line of Duty are working on a brand new thriller – and it sounds like a definite must-watch.
The six-part series Showtrial will focus on a trial that grips a nation – and will look at how wealth, politics and prejudice can affect the quest for justice.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will follow Talitha Campbell, the arrogant daughter of a wealthy entrepreneur who gets arrested following the disappearance of Hannah Ellis, a hard-working fellow student and daughter of a single mum.
The show will cover everything from Campbell’s arrest to the final verdict the jury delivers – and will switch between both sides of the legal battle, as the prosecution and defense try to find out what really happened to Hannah.
“The right to a fair trial and the idea of reasonable doubt lie at the heart of a civilized society,” Strike writer Ben Richards said in a statement. “Showtrial explores how they can be distorted by other factors, in a world where concepts such as fairness, doubt and reason are afforded such diminishing value.”
“It’s great to be working again with Ben Richards, who uses the DNA of our true-crime obsession to create a gripping fictional murder trial that shines a light on the failings of our justice system,” World Productions CEO and creative director Simon Heath said.
World Productions is the production company behind both Line of Duty and Bodyguard.
- The series is expected to air on BBC One in 2020. No exact release date has been set yet.
