Music is very powerful; songs get stuck in our heads on repeat and we develop emotional connections from them, especially when they feature in our favourite movies. We take a look at the most romantic songs and films and some of those iconic scenes.
1. Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Frankie Valli – 10 things I Hate About You.
That moment when Heath Ledger began singing in the bleachers… Be still our beating hearts.
2. I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston – The Bodyguard
It just wasn’t going to work out between Kevin and Whitney so, of course, she had to sing about it. Little did we know this song was going to take over our lives as we know them. Why can’t these kids just work it out?!
3. Wings, Birdy – Labor Day
This beautiful track is the perfect musical depiction of Frank and Adele’s love. What a voice, what a beautiful song.
4. The Time of my Life, Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes – Dirty Dancing.
Nobody puts Baby in a corner… Well, especially when she can dance like this.
5. As Time Goes By, Sam – Casablanca
Play it again, Sam. Believe us, we all cried like Ingrid did at this particular scene.
6. Secret Garden, Bruce Springsteen – Jerry Maguire.
A word of advice, Bruce Springsteen is the best person alive to use for your soundtrack. This gem for Jerry Maguire? Flawless.
7. Unchained Melody, The Righteous Brothers – Ghost.
It is not only one of the most iconic love songs of all time, it’s certainly one of the most iconic scenes of all time.
8. Come What May, Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor – Moulin Rouge
That moment when Nicole burst into song while she desperately tried to stop Ewan from leaving. Stop, we couldn’t stop crying.
9. Beauty and the Beast – Beauty and the Beast
Tale as old as time… No, we don’t mean the Celine version, we mean that beautiful one from the film. Ah, Angela.
10. Falling Slowly, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová- Once
It’s often listed as one of the most romantic songs from a film but there is also something a little heartbreaking about this one.
11. Kissing You, Des’ree – Romeo and Juliet
That moment when we first see Romeo meet Juliet. Beautiful.
12. It Must Have Been Love, Roxette – Pretty Woman
Vivian gets in the limo and leaves Edward. It must have been love! IT MUST HAVE BEEN!
