Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most loveable and loved video game icons in history. The blue humanoid hedgehog has attitude and nice red shoes, blue fur and a cheeky smile that makes us light up.
He doesn’t have genitals though, if the trailer to his long-awaited live action film debut is anything to go by.
The first official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog hit the internet on Tuesday, featuring the spiky blue mammal speeding through the United States and causing electrical outages all over the Pacific Northwest.
The film features Jim Carrey as Egg Man/Dr. Robotnik, who appears to have been called in by the military to get to the bottom of this energy force threatening the nation.
The trailer shows Egg Man looking unfamiliar initially, before pleasing fans of the game with his traditional outfit just before the trailer ends.
The key point though, and the key takeaway from this 2 minute, 46 second trailer is undoubtedly the revelation that Sonic does not possess reproductive organs, on the outside of his body at least.
Will this have an effect on the box office, perhaps turning off pedantic fans of the series who demand he look exactly as he does in their imaginations and the scripts of their fan fiction?
One would hope not.
