Disney+ has just added The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox to its service, a new crime drama series based on shocking true events.
It stars Grace Van Patten (Nine Perfect Strangers, Tell Me Lies) as Amanda Knox. The show details the American woman's wrongful conviction for the 2007 murder of her flatmate Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy.
Produced by Knox herself, alongside Monica Lewinsky, the synopsis for the eight-part series from Disney reads:
"This drama series follows Amanda’s 15-year fight to clear her name, highlighting the investigation, courtroom twists, and headline-grabbing narratives.
"Each episode unpacks pivotal moments — forensic interpretations, the court of public opinion waging on in headlines — to ultimately reveal how an innocent student ultimately reclaimed her life."
The show was created by K.J. Steinberg (Mistresses, This is Us) and also stars Irish actress Sharon Horgan as Edda Mellas, Knox's mother.
Earlier this year, JOE asked Horgan about the project on the IFTA red carpet.
At the time, she was still filming the series and said of the experience: “It’s been good. It’s completely different from anything I’ve done.
"But I think that’s a good thing, to do stuff you haven’t done before."

The first two episodes of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox are now streaming on Disney+.
The rest of the eight-episode series will drop weekly on the streaming service on Wednesdays.
