The Walsh Sisters is the one show everyone will be talking about this autumn
There's something extra special about Irish stories, especially ones with sisterhood at the heart of them.
There's a collective feeling that women in Ireland will always have one another's back, whether it's in light moments and you need to borrow perfume in the pub loo, or harder moments when we need to use our collective voice and fight together.
The women of Ireland have always been strong, united, and powerful, and there's no greater reminder of that than in the new RTÉ series, The Walsh Sisters.
Based on the legendary books by Marian Keyes, the series revolves around the lives of the five Walsh sisters, Anna, Rachel, Claire, Maggie, and Helen.
The cast of the series was joined by author Marian Keyes at Dublin's IFI on September 17th at The Walsh Sisters premiere on Wednesday evening.
The buzz in the iconic Dublin cinema was electric as the cast and crew of the highly anticipated series gathered together for the premiere.
Speaking exclusively to Her.ie, actress Caroline Menton (Rachel) says she hopes Irish audiences will connect with the series as much as they did with the books.
"I think there are some really interesting conversations that will hopefully challenge audiences about certain topics, like being a mother, and what that looks like, and what society expects of you.
"We explore addiction in the series, and hopefully, people can look at that with a more compassionate and empathetic lens, and not be so judgmental. Hopefully it's portrayed in a very nuanced, sensitive, human way."
What is The Walsh Sisters about?
'When Rachel’s addiction spirals out of control, it sets off a chain of events that shakes the entire family to its core. Anna faces a profound personal crisis, while Rachel is forced into rehab and must face the chaos she’s created.
'Claire is struggling to redefine herself as a single mother, Maggie is desperate to start a family of her own, and Helen, stoic and sharp, is hiding battles that no one can see. As they stumble through secrets, family feuds, and moments of grace, each sister must confront who they really are and the roles they’ve always played.
'At its heart, the series is about messy love, painful growth, and the bonds that hold us together. '
The Walsh Sisters stars Louisa Harland as Anna, Caroline Menton as Rachel, Danielle Galligan as Claire, Máiréad Tyers as Helen, and Stefanie Preissner as Maggie.
The series also stars Jay Duffy (Luke), Carrie Crowley (Mammy Walsh), and Aidan Quinn (Daddy Walsh).
The Walsh Sisters was written by Stefanie Preissner and Kefi Chadwick and directed by Ian Fitzgibbon.
The Walsh Sisters airs on RTÉ One on Sunday, September 28th at 9.30 pm.
