Then and now: Just look at our fave QUEENS, still killing it decades on

Louise Carroll

After all these years, we’re still OBSESSED.

Some of these wonder women were entertaining us when we were just babies and even bopping about in our parents’ time. Some that have spent life on the stage have no plans to ever give up the gig, and we love them for it.

Just as brilliant now as they were before (much like Coca Cola original and the new Coke Zero Sugar – NOM) here are some original and fresh shots of some of our favourite voices of all time. Scroll left and right for a good ol’ peek and embrace the flashbacks ladies.

Mariah Carey (in 1991 and 2018)

Mariah released her debut album in 1990, with four number one singles hitting the US Billboard Hot 100 chart – one of them being Vision of Love. Nineties babies will remember singing along to Heartbreaker (the one where she’s with the girls in the cinema – never gets old) and of course, the ballad of all time – Hero. Update: Mariah is in the studio creating music once more and we cannot wait to have a listen.

Britney Spears (in 1999 and 2018)

…Baby One More Time (1999) had us utterly fascinated, there’s no doubt. Obsessed, even. Britney’s debut album sold over 25 million copies worldwide making it one of the most successful albums of all time. Since December 2013, Brit has been killing it in Vegas, even signing an all-new contract with the Park Theater inside the Monte Carlo Resort, to begin another Vegas residency in 2019. (And yes, we want to go!)

Cher (in 1970 and 2018)

Sonny and Cher became super popular in 1965 when they gave the world I Got you Babe. (Yes, you’ve heard it.) By 1967, they had sold 40 million records worldwide. (Nice.) Cher hit it big with her simultaneous solo career with Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) while TV fame came with the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and in the eighties Cher’s film career just took off. Plenty of us would remember her best for Believe in 1998 and this year, 2018, marks Cher’s first on-screen role in eight years. Yep, she’s back in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. And we’re watching it just for her, to be honest.

Madonna (in 1984 and 2018)

Madonna is the definition of the word ‘workaholic’. Her global best-selling albums – Like a Virgin (1984) and True Blue (1986) – catapulted her to fame. The rest is pretty much pop history! Oh, and last April she confirmed she’s back in the studio. Besides her ever awe-inspiring performances, expect big things. Are we surprised the Vogue singer is still shaking things up? It’s only to be expected, really. Oh, and her Met Gala look this year brought us ALL the way back to her Like a Prayer days. (Adore.)

B*Witched (in 1998 and 2018)

It was cheesy pop and we loved it! So, these ladies are a bit closer to home indeed. And after making our 90s years ever more enjoyable with hits like C’est La Vie and Rollercoaster – they’re back! Edele, Keavy, Lindsay and Sinéad are hitting the recording studio, and are set to release a 20th anniversary album. (Excited!!) Oh, and above is B*Witched on the set of our Her podcast, Girls With Goals.

Christina Aguilera (in 1999 and 2018)

Xtina’s singing debut came in 1999 with the hit single Genie in a Bottle. With such a powerful voice, unlike any other, the Dirty singer has been entertaining us ever since. Keep an eye on this year’s Liberation Tour. Undoubtedly, it will be savage. Above is Ms Aguilera in her very first year of fame and just last month she was spotted taking an Insta pic on Dublin’s Drury Street.

Beyoncé (in 2000 and 2018)

Where do we begin? Our love for Queen Bee is never ending. It feels like every week she’s back having reinvented herself again, forever living up to her own greatness. From her Destiny’s Child days with girls Kelly and Michelle (and before that, when there were four), to her sixth solo album – Lemonade – and of course, The Carter’s Ape Shit video which we STILL can’t stop watching, we just hope she plans to perform forever.
