This new Netflix series is going to be your next TV obsession

Alan Loughnane

This drama, mystery series will go down well with fans of Stranger Things

Directed and executive produced Tom McCarthy, the director of the extraordinary Spotlight, Netflix’s new series 13 Reasons Why, looks set to be a big hit when it’s released on Friday, March 31.

Revolving around the sensitive subject of teen suicide, the series tells the story of Hannah Baker’s life, or more accurately, the reasons that she ended her life.

Hannah leaves behind a series of audiotapes, each one revealing more layers to her and her life. In the 13 tapes, she outlines the 13 reasons why she died by suicide.

Based on the 2007 novel by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why, the series mainly sticks to the path of the novel with only slight detours, during its 13 episode descent into mystery, grief and confusion.

The story begins as we’re introduced to young Clay, sweet and low-key, who had a crush on Hannah in her life and can’t comprehend that he may have played a role in her eventual death.

Cast of the series include: Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, Brandon Flynn, Kate Walsh, Brian D’Arcy James, Christian Navarro.

The series is out on Netflix this Friday, and we won’t think any less of you if you’ve finished the whole thing by Sunday evening…
