Tiger King is set to be turned into a five part TikTok opera

Ellen Fitzpatrick

Yes, you read that right.

First, we had Ratatouille the Musical, now it’s Tiger King’s turn.

As the second season is about to drop on Netflix, the English National Opera has teamed up with TikTok to create a five-act “TikTopera” out of the hit series.

The musical will see singers and a full orchestra telling the story of Tiger King in a five-part series of 60-second TikTok videos.

“The TikTopera is slightly mad, like Tiger King itself,” Stuart Murphy, chief executive of the ENO, said.

“It was a nightmare trying to get all the complexities of Tiger King into 60 seconds because there’s love, betrayal and even attempted murder.”

Early in 2020, Tiger King quickly became one of the most-watched Netflix series, and the second season is set to join the streaming service on Wednesday.

The seven-episode documentary introduced us to Joe Exotic, a very over the top zookeeper in Oklahoma and told of his ongoing feud with big-cat conservationist Carole Baskin.

The five TikTok videos will have each cast member summarise the story we were all obsessed with through songs that will be set to the music of French composer Georges Bizet’s 1875 masterpiece Carmen, alongside the ENO’s orchestra and 40-person chorus.

The lead roles for the opera are set to be played by TikTok stars Sophia Aurora, Hannah Lowther and recording artist Hellovicco as well as X-Factor finalists Max and Harvey, and Britain’s Got Talent comedian Phil Green

The musical is set to be released ahead of Tiger King 2 launching on Netflix on November 17th.
