Published in 1993, Lois Lowry’s The Giver is perhaps one of the best young adult books out there. Often included in school curriculums, the book has made it on to many award lists and with good reason, it’s simply brilliant.
When it was announced that the book would be turned into a film, many were skeptical but with the right casting decisions, this could be one of the films to watch out for this year.
Starring Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges, the film revolves around a young boy called Jonas who lives in a “perfect” community. Chosen as the one person to receive all of the memories from before his community was created, he goes to visit the Giver, the one person who can recall what life used to be like.
