Twitter post fuels debate over what 45-year-olds looked like in the '90s
Has there been a change in the decades since?
In recent weeks, an image posted from a '90s comedy movie sparked quite a debate on Twitter regarding how 45-year-olds looked in films from the decade.
The comedy in question was 1995's Father of the Bride Part II, in which a husband and father (Steve Martin) must deal not only with the pregnancy of his daughter but also the pregnancy of his wife (Diane Keaton).
Sharing a still from the movie featuring Keaton and Martin's characters, writer-director Jessica Ellis wrote:
"An unbelievable thing that has changed in 30 years is that in 1995, this was supposed to be what 45-year-olds looked like.
"This photograph also explains why millennials live with a sneaking suspicion we have never gotten our s**t together."

Since it was posted weeks ago, the image has been viewed nearly 6.5 million times, garnering thousands of likes and retweets.
Ellis later clarified: "The characters are in their mid-40s, this is repeatedly established across both films.
"It’s not Steve’s hair, it is the styling. The 'ideal' was to be a person in old lady twinsets and pearls by your 40s."
Many of the commenters agreed with Ellis' point that "most people in their 40s don't dress like this anymore" and that there may have been a "relaxation of rules about age-appropriate clothes" since the '90s.
Some highlighted the 42-year-old Kim Kardashian and the 53-year-old Jennifer Lopez as comparisons.
One commenter wrote: "Someone on TikTok said that if you recast the movie today with actors of the same age, it’d be Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl."
Meanwhile, a handful pointed out that The Golden Girls were supposed to be in their mid-50s when that show started.
"Stuff like this and the cast of Beverly Hills 90210 (original) are the reasons I completely suck at guessing people’s ages growing up. Still suck at it," another wrote.
