This Is Us returns today for sixth and final season

Katy Brennan

We may not be bidding farewell to the Pearson family forever…

The final season of This Is Us hits screens today and viewers will finally get answers to the bombshells season five dropped.

The hit family drama follows the lives of three siblings known as ‘The Big Three’ – Kevin, Kate, and Randall – as they navigate life in several different time frames.

Fans were left eagerly awaiting more when season five’s final episode jumped five years into the future, sparking a wide array of unanswered questions.

Kevin (Justin Hartley) was shown working for a construction company called Big Three Construction, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) featured in a magazine as a “rising star”, while Kate (Chrissy Metz) married her boss after separating from her current husband Toby (Chris Sullivan).

Creator Dan Fogelman has promised that the latest instalment will now dive into how the siblings got to these points in their lives in what looks set to be an emotional season.

This may not be the last we’ll ever see of the family, however, as Justin Hartley has hinted at a potential This Is Us movie in the future.

“I am down for a This Is Us movie, I love these cats,” the 44-year-old told Access Hollywood. “I would do a trilogy movie, I really would. I would do a movie every year with these guys.”

And it looks like Justin isn’t the only actor up for it – Sterling K. Brown also flirted with the idea of taking part.

We totally could. And that’s something, actually, I could definitely see them promoting it. Like, we’ve seen the Sex and the City joints, there’s an Entourage joint, if they can do it, why the hell not?”

Meanwhile, Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca Pearson, the siblings’ mom, said: “We were laughing the other day with some of the cast, like, all these shows that are getting rebooted, didn’t they just end five, six, seven years ago? Are we going to be doing This Is Us the reboot in six years? I would be game to do anything that would reunite me with everybody here.”

Fingers crossed!

Season six is released on NBC on 4 January and will be available to stream on Disney+ from 6 January.
