E4 subsequently apologised to fans for the blunder, and assured them that the finale would air soon.

Viewers hoping to tune in to the highly anticipated finale of Married At First Sight UK last night were left confused and disappointed after Channel 4 accidentally screened a repeat on E4 instead.

Taking to Twitter, E4 explained and apologised for the mishap.

They wrote: “We’re aware that it’s yesterday’s episode of #MAFSUK playing out this evening and apologise. It’s all down to our ongoing tech issues which we’re working hard on. We’ll update here as soon as we know more and when you’ll be able to see the final episode of MAFSUK.”

The show’s host AJ Odudu then told fans that the new episode, as well as the companion show, Married At First Sight Afters, would be “coming soon”.

In another statement issued to Digital Spy, a spokesperson for the network said: “Following the incident at the weekend, Channel 4 and All 4 are still experiencing some problems and we’re working hard to fix it.”

Fans of the show were excited to see what happens in the explosive finale, but took to Twitter when they realised what was wrong.

One wrote: “Me sitting down to watch #MAFSUK finale and thinking it’s the longest recap ever.”

Another shared a GIF of the older version of Rose from Titanic and said: “Everyone waiting for the final vow renewals like…”

To make matters worse, the scheduled programme was then replaced with an episode of First Dates.

One frustrated viewer wrote: “FIRST DATES?! NO THANK YOU!!!!”

They then added: “@E4 tweets please can I speak to the manager!!!”

Channel 4 describes Married At First Sight UK as a “bold social experiment where single people, matched by experts, marry total strangers who they meet for the very first time on their wedding day”.
