A few months back it was announced that there would be a new live action of Aladdin and that Guy Richie would be directing. Naturally, given Guy's previous movie styles, like Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Sherlock Holmes, people were a little apprehensive about how it would turn out.
I got to sit down with Dan Lin and Chris McKay, who are currently promoting The LEGO Batman Movie. Dan has worked with Guy on a number of his films and will also work on Aladdin.
When I asked Dan about the new live-action version of the popular '90s movie he gave me some exciting news about it saying:
"I'm so excited about it because it's a different way to tell that Aladdin story. Disney has done a great job with Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast, and it's going to surprise audiences.
It's a musical, Guy's first time telling a musical story. His wife and his kids love the story so I think it's always when your family is motivating you to make a movie I think it's a good thing, it happened here with the LEGO Movie, with us, my kids wanted me to make a LEGO movie."
He also added:
"Aladdin is going to be different, live action, colour. I think it will be less cutty than previous Guy Richie movies with a real style to it that he is going to bring that you haven't seen before.
What's unexpected what's fresh about telling these stories. They are stories with great mythology, like Batman and Aladdin. How do you tell it in a way that audiences haven't seen before and that's what I'm excited about."
