Winnie the Pooh was one of our all-time favourite childhood books.
But, it has been revealed that Winnie is actually a GIRL and our minds are blown.
Oh, and she’s from Canada, not England…
In a newly-released book called Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear, we learn that she was actually named after a black bear from London Zoo called Winnipeg.
The picture book is written by Lindsay Mattick, who is actually the granddaughter of the soldier who brought Winnie to England during World War I.
Apparently, the soldier, Lieutenant Harry Colebourn, and Winnie became inseparable until he had to fly away to war and left the bear in London Zoo.
However, when Winnie stayed in London, she met a boy called Christopher Robin, and that is where the whole story begins as Christopher’s dad, AA Milne, went on to write the classic Winnie the Pooh novels.
See? There’s always a happy ending just waiting around the corner.
