10 things that prove mum is most definitely the ultimate QUEEN

Mum. Is there anything she can’t do?

Now that we’re that bit older (only that little bit… ahem…) we can understand just how selfless and caring mum was. We’re at the stage where we’re paying rent, heating bills, food costs plus an array of others – we’re thinking it’s pretty amazing how mum juggled so much (kids running riot, tantrums, food fights) and left us feeling so loved all the same.

Here’s what we love most about mum, and yes, we think it’s proof that she’s the ultimate queen.

1. She’s Our Very Own News Correspondent

There’s no need to watch the news when you have mum. She’ll tell you tomorrows weather, when the sales start, she’ll tell you all about the new neighbours that have moved in, the birthdays you can’t miss and who’s getting married.

2. Dinner. That is all.

There’s nothing more glorious than mum’s cooking. Someone else’s mum could try, but no… it couldn’t come close. We go on weekend trips, we travel different parts of the world, we move to another part of the world to work – and no doubt it’s food and fresh grub galore. But once we set foot in the airport to come home – we’re pretty sure we can already smell that magnificent feast.

3. When We’re Sick, She Knows Just What To Do

Sure, when you’re really very sick – going to a real doctor is probably an ideal plan. But when we’re under the weather, no one can make us feel more cared for and looked after than mum. Sure, she even goes out and buys us warm pyjamas, ensures our hot water bottle is indeed very warm, and brings us splendid cups of tea to keep us warm and happy.

4. Speaking of tea…

…mum makes only the finest cuppa!

5. Mum’s Our Best Advisor

She didn’t come down in the last shower, oh no. That woman has years of life experience under her belt so she’s most definitely worth listening to and learning from. She only wants what’s best for us – this much we know, so take her precious advice (at least when you’ve a good idea she knows what she’s on about.)

One4all conducted research among 594 Irish adults (81 percent female and 19 percent male) as part of their I Got It From My Mama campaign. One third said the most valuable thing they ever received from mum, or a mama figure, was a great piece of advice.

6. Beauty Secrets

Yep, she’s the one we’ve been looking up to since childhood and that goes for fashion sense and beauty standards. Even if we don’t share the same style as mum, no doubt she played a big influence AND likely shared with us her best beauty secrets.

7. “You’re not going out in that, are ya?”

Indeed, mum knows how to put us right back in our box. She’s never afraid of being brutally honest with us. She knows a few hours later all will be forgiven and we’ll be the best of friends again.

8. “Look at what I got you.”

Oh, the excitement. The odd time, when mum has returned from her little shopping spree, she’ll surprise us with something she felt we’d appreciate. Whether she gets it wrong or right – we love knowing that mum still thinks about us.

9. Bear Hugs

When shit hits the fan and we’re truly upset about something, it’s miraculous that one of mum’s hugs can put everything right and set us on the path to feeling good again.

10. She Remembers Everything

Ok, slight exaggeration right there, but… she remembers all the important things. She’ll tell you what your favourite food was when you were little, what made you laugh most in your toddler years and how the nurse in the delivery room told her that YOU were the most beautiful baby she had ever seen. Has to be true, right?

During One4all’s research they also found that 90 percent of participants considered mum (or a mother figure) to be their role model. Sure, is it any wonder?

She’s the woman that was our voice for so many years before we finally began ‘adulting,’ she gave us life and she continues to love us unconditionally. A very big thank you to our QUEEN.
