10 Things… Her.ie Loved This Week

Things that made Team Her very happy this week.

Rebecca McKnight

Another Friday rolls around and we’re taking a look back over the week that was. Our highlights this week include the theatre, darling, and a giant Mr. Tayto. Naturally.

The Pillowman

Michelle headed along to the first night of Decadent Theatre’s production of The Pillowman at Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre on Monday last. Having never seen Martin McDonagh’s Tony and Olivier Award-winning play previously, she wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It’s safe to say not many people in the audience did! Opening in a prison cell where a young writer is questioned about gruesome children’s stories he has penned, the black comedy is as twisted as theatre gets but left the audience rolling in the aisles with laughter. It’s playing until March 14th, with comedian David McSavage, Gary Lydon and Love/Hate‘s Peter Shine in starring roles. Frankly, it would be a travesty to miss it. Exceptional.

You can book tickets here.

Fashionable Friends

Cathy interviewed fashion designer Paul Costelloe this week and she was more than a little bit awestruck. With a successful career spanning three decades, Paul’s recent collection at London Fashion Week was widely raved about. Oh, and he has a new bridal jewellery line, not to mention interiors, menswear and a designer glasses line. Impressive much?! Keep an eye on the site for our video interview with him next week.

Focus on Film

Liz took a trip to the cinema this week to see the new Will Smith and Margot Robbie film Focus. While the film won’t be winning any Oscars (sorry Will, it wasn’t your best performance), she did fall in love with Margot Robbie. As well as being a pretty talented actress, Margot looks incredible and effortlessly stylish from the opening scenes to the end. As if we didn’t already love her Oscars look, she struck gold in pretty much every outfit choice in this film.

Liz is now tracking down anywhere who might sell an identical number to this show-stopper… (All tips welcome)

A Nice Chappie

Rebecca had the pleasure of going to see Neill Blomkamp’s new film Chappie this week. Set in a world policed by robots, it’s the story of a model which is taken and reprogrammed, making it the first droid with the ability to feel and develop like a human. While she didn’t think it matched up to the brilliance of District 9, Rebecca thought it was an entertaining sci-fi flick with a lot of heart.

Pink Lady

Mary nearly lost her life when she got her hands on this Michael Kors bag that she has been drooling over for some time. To say her day was made would be an understatement – month, if not year. We’re certain she’s going to give this a fine new home… possibly with a shrine built around it.

They See Me Rollin’

Michelle is driving at Citroen Cactus this week and has fallen truly, madly, deeply in love. This is the funkiest car she’s seen in quite a while. The colour is a show-topper and it’s a million miles from anything she’s driven before. Not for the wallflower driver, granted – but we’re more than a little impressed. Full review on the way next week… you’ll want it too.

Flutter By

Next to fashion, Cathy is a bit of a make-up fiend and when it comes to favourite products, mascara is one that’s hard to live without. While it might look great at the start of the day, there’s nothing worse than reapplying and ending up with dry, crackly, spidery lashes. Since discovering Urban Decay’s Mascara Resurrection (€13), Cathy is raving about it to anyone who will listen. A serum that coats mascara and makes it good as new *YAY*

She’s Electric

Nothing makes Marie happier than the beginning of festival season so she was delighted to head to the launch of Electric Picnic at The Chocolate Factory on Wednesday. With Florence And The Machine and Underworld confirmed as headliners, alongside Róisín Murphy, George Ezra and Jessie Ware, this year’s trip to Stradbally is already looking pretty amazing and the EP team decided to celebrate in style by creating a mini-festival at the King’s Inns Street venue. Roll on September!

Keeping it Crispy

Mary had her week made this week when she got to meet the Irish legend that is Mr. Tayto. Not only did she grab a sneaky snap with him at the office, but she also got to gorge on crisp sandwiches the entire week… nothing beats cheese and onion and two slices of bread to put a smile on this girl’s face.

Pick of the Brunch

Liz went for brunch with her friend this week to Bay in Clontarf. This gorgeous little café is nestled just along the sea-front and she was thrilled that eating out didn’t mean she had to break her good eating routine. Settling for the healthy option breakfast, she happily sat and chatted with her friend while munching on eggs and sipping a smoothie. If you have an hour to spare and have a soft spot for sea landscapes, Liz thinks it’d be hard to beat a breakfast of champions.
