The Christmas market at Dublin Castle will return this year

Ellen Fitzpatrick

A Christmas miracle.

With Christmas festivities in doubt with the new restrictions put in place, one thing we know for sure is that the market at Dublin Castle is definitely going ahead.

News broke this week that the largest indoor Christmas market, Mistletown Dublin, won’t be going ahead due to the Covid-19 situation.

Set to begin on December 4th in the Fruit and Veg market near Mary Street, they have been forced to cancel the big event for the second year in a row.

Organisers Artisan Events Ltd said: “Our teams have worked incredibly hard with the support of the council to reopen the historical City Fruit and Vegetable Market.

“However, the continuing uncertainty around Covid-19 and the attendant financial risks have forced us to take the difficult decision not to proceed with the event.”

While this one is not happening, the huge Christmas market that takes place in Dublin Castle is officially going ahead, starting on December 8th to the 21st, from 3pm to 10pm.

In an Instagram, Dublin Castle wrote: “OPW is pleased to announce the exciting return of this event for Christmas 2021 taking place from 8th to 21st December at the heart of the city, in the historic surroundings of Dublin Castle.

“The Dublin Castle Christmas Market will be hosted in both the upper and lower Courtyards of the Castle and will be a curated event, designed to complement the Castle’s Christmas event offering.

“Access to the event will be via a free ticketed system to the public to ensure all Covid safety guidelines are adhered to. The event is presented produced by the Office of Public Works and will be supported by a national marketing campaign.

“The goal of the market is to offer a destination/Christmas-orientated family experience with an emphasis on high-quality Irish crafts, art, food and drink.”

We’re just so glad it’s back.
