EXPOSED: Bunty magazine covers raise a lot of unanswered questions

Ciara Knight

The name ‘Bunty’ is deeply funny to say repeatedly.

I never read Bunty because I was very much against the British rule as a child. Luckily, my sister had no regard for our nation’s sovereignty and used to wolf into the magazines and annuals frequently.

I always found the covers of Bunty deeply fascinating, even from a young age. Looking back on them now, they’re even worse. What in the name of Christ were the writers thinking?

Few quick points here:

– Why is the teddy bear in the front seat?

– Where is his seatbelt?

– Why are the couple getting a taxi to their wedding?

– Why does the groom have a rabbit tail on his jacket lapel?

– Why doesn’t the taxi driver have her eyes on the road?

– Why does the teddy bear look like he’s seen unspeakable things? Is that why he is wearing a good luck sash?

– Are we not supposed to notice that the last girl isn’t illustrated?

– Why isn’t the first girl peeling the monkey nuts before giving them to the squirrel?

– Why is the sailor girl using a piece of bamboo as a telescope?

– Why is the skiing girl’s pole breaking the frame and what is she celebrating?

– What is the real girl fist pumping to? Perhaps the fact that she is not illustrated?

– Sorry, WHAT is going on here?

– Why are they insulting our intelligence and suggesting that this is the real Humpty Dumpty?

– Why is the paramedic smiling and giving a thumbs-up when a life is at risk?

– Why did they affix the bandage so the mask is doing a creepy wink?

– WHAT IN THE WORLD KIND OF PUN IS HUMPTY BUNTY?

– Why was there an entire cake sitting haphazardly on a blanket?

– Where did the goat come from?

– Does this lady not understand how a hammock works?

– Was a suitcase really the most convenient item to prop the radio up with?

– How in is one supposedly unaware of the presence of a William goat?
