‘Gatsbying’ is the latest dating trend, and honestly WTF?

Welcome to 2019.

There are some pretty weird dating trends out there.

From ghosting and ‘bread-crumbing’ to phubbing and kittenfishing, 2019 is pretty bonkers.

Anyway, it is about to get even stranger.

Apparently, ‘Gatsbying’ is the latest dating trend on the scene, and it might be the most pathetic one yet.

‘Gatsbying’ is when you, like Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby, throw lavish parties in the hopes of attracting the object of your affection.

However, Gatsbying in 2018 means throwing a digital “party” and sharing lavish posts on social media with the goal of your crush seeing it.

Are we all a little guilty of that? Just a bit like.

The word was coined by Matilda Dods in a piece she wrote for TomBoyBeauty.com.

“a video, picture or selfie to public social media purely for a love interest to see…”

The model pondered her behaviour on a night out, and we couldn’t help but think…

“Why, instead of just sending a text to the boy that I like, am I throwing the equivalent of a champagne soaked, chandelier swinging, Charleston dancing party on my Instagram story? All for that ceaseless green light across the water that is the attention of a boy who, let’s be real, probably isn’t good enough for me anyway?”

Don’t get me wrong, there are dating trends out there that are way worse.

However, this baby might just be the most fickle.

Have you ever been the victim of Gatsbying?

Or have you done it?
