Star Wars continues to make headlines across the globe. Only this weekend, ODEON cinemas have revealed that the new movie accounted for 90% of their weekend sales.

We’ve seen all sorts of parodies and puns being used to celebrate the release of the movie but this latest one has to be the most bizarre.

A church in Germany held a Star Wars inspired mass to try and attract the younger members of the community. They welcomed fans of the movie in full costumes and the priest even had a special lightsaber in his hand during the ceremony.

BERLIN, GERMANY - DECEMBER 20: Vicars Lucas Ludewig (L) and Ulrike Garve hold a church service centered around the 1983 film 'Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi' at the Zionskirche (Zion Church) on December 20, 2015 in Berlin, Germany. The latest Star Wars film, 'Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens,' was released in the country two days earlier, and local priests used the opportunity to tie Biblical parallels concerning good and evil to the movie, while using the original film's score by John Williams as organ accompaniment, along with video clips. They showed clips from the movie on a massive screen and featured the theme music in the overall proceedings. They saw an increase of more than double the amount of regular church-goers, with 500 people attending the special ceremony.

BERLIN, GERMANY - DECEMBER 20: Congregants attend an Evangelical Advent church service centered around the 1983 film 'Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi' at the Zionskirche (Zion Church) on December 20, 2015 in Berlin, Germany. Lucas Ludewig, the local Pastor, explained to the Telegraph why they wanted to include Star Wars in their mass saying, “Star Wars deals with religious imagery, from Christianity and probably from other religions as well.”

He added, “So that shows that the Bible and our church is part of our culture – that it is constantly used and appropriated.”
