You can say goodbye to aching muscles if you do this after every workout

Cathy Donohue

It can make all the difference.

As gym-goers know (or new gym-goers will soon find out), post-workout pain can be seriously intense and we’re open to any suggestions that might alleviate this particular kind of torture, particularly as it can last for a few days.

Chances are you’ve tried various remedies, tips and tricks but as this one comes courtesy of a former Navy SEAL, we’re all ears.

Clint Emerson is the author of 100 Deadly Skills: The SEAL Operative’s Guide to Eluding Pursuers, Evading Capture, and Surviving Any Dangerous Situation, and we think you’ll find this is one expert who knows his stuff.

Chatting with Business Insider, Clint explained how something as simple as a post-workout cold shower can aid muscle recovery.

“The reason professional athletes do it all the time after a workout is it increases recovery. It vasoconstricts the entire body, squeezing out all of that lactic acid so that you can feel good to go the next day and be ready for the next day training“.

So there you go, having a cold shower afterwards can actually make a major difference but at the same time, there’s no harm in having a rest the day after exercise.

If you’ve just finished a particularly strenuous workout, there are some other steps you can take to aid a quick recovery, including rehydrating with plenty of water and stretching out properly.
