Teacher’s way to make students comfortable about their periods

This is so helpful.

Getting your period for the first time can be stressful.

Especially if it decides to arrive when you’re not in the comfort of your home where your mam’s waiting anxiously outside the bathroom door with a few packets of Tampax in her hands.

Having your period arrive for the first time in school is not the worst thing in the world… but it can be pretty scary for many girls who maybe feel like they can’t tell anybody what’s happened, or ask for help.

That’s why one teacher decided to do something to ensure that getting your period went as smoothly as possible – at least for the girls in her class.

Kristin Heavner provides her students with ‘period packs’ so they’ll be totally equipped when the day arrives.

Inside the packs are pads, tampons, panty liners, and pre-packed wipes. In a Facebook post, Heavner wrote that her students know to come and ask her for a pack if they need one.

And they get a pretty bag too.

In her post, Kristin started by saying that being “uncomfortable” about periods in this day and age was unacceptable “because seriously, about half the population of the world menstruates.”

Go on, girl!

She then went on to explain why she started the initiative herself.

“Sure, the office has pads for students, but once you’ve already figured out that there is an issue, the last thing you want to do is head to the office wait in line, ask for what you need, (and) walk back to the bathroom.”

She also said that the period packs had been “super handy” already, even though school had only been back for a week.

Kristin’s post has already been liked almost 5,000 times and shared by over 2,500 people.

Understandably, people are only delighted that the teacher cares so much about her students.

“I wish I had a teacher like you when I was in school,” said one person.

“Excellent idea,” said another. “Nothing is more embarrassing at that age than not being prepared.”
