Car theft is something that can happen to you at any time of the day in any area and while someone stealing your car is out of your control, there are some things you can do to deter thieves.
From simply making sure your car is locked to a GPS tracking system, here are a few tips that could prevent a thief from stealing your car...
1. Common sense goes a long way so make sure your car is always locked and that you don’t leave it running while you run back into your house to grab your phone. Thieves are opportunists and they will take advantage of a careless move.
2. Like your house keys, you should keep all spare car keys in a safe place. Don’t leave it in the car or somewhere that it can easily be found. Perhaps give it to another member of your family or lock it in a safe.
3. Park in a well-lit area and if possible in a position that is visible from your home or workplace. An area where lots of other cars are parked is preferable.
4. Use your alarm system. There are also a number of anti-theft devices you can invest in such as steering wheel or brake locks. You could take it one step further with a GPS tracking system which means your vehicle can be located if it is stolen.
5. Don’t leave valuables in the car even if you are only planning on being away from it for a few minutes. This includes your handbag, a satellite navigation system as well as vehicle documentation.
