The Gilmore Girls episodes that you need to watch this autumn

Kat O'Connor

Where you lead, I will follow.

The temperature has dropped, the leaves are starting to fall and the giant boxes of pumpkins are now plonked outside the entrance to SuperValu. Autumn is officially here which means it is time to watch the coziest show of all, Gilmore Girls.

Heading back to Stars Hollow during the autumn months is a tradition I hold close to my heart, but some of us don’t have time to re-watch every single episode so I’ve put together a list of the best autumn episodes of Gilmore Girls.

Each episode is perfect if you’re planning on curling up in a ball with a giant cup of (decaf) coffee and your coziest jumper.

Kiss and Tell (Season 1, Episode 7)

Stars Hollow is full of pumpkins, twinkly lights, and turkey decorations, much to Luke’s disgust. The town is preparing for Thanksgiving, but Rory has more important things happening in her little corner of the world. She has her first kiss with Dean in this episode but doesn’t tell Lorelai. After finding out the news from Mrs Kim, Lorelai decides to invite Dean to their house for a movie night, which isn’t the first date Rory hoped for.

The Road Trip to Harvard (Season 2, Episode 4)

After cancelling her wedding to Max, Lorelai goes on a road trip with Rory to distract her from the drama she left behind in Stars Hollow. The mother-daughter duo visit Rory’s dream college Harvard after spending the night at the creepiest B&B called ‘The Cheshire Cat’.

Let The Games Begin (Season 3, Episode 8)

Season 3 is the best season of Gilmore Girls and one that features plenty of autumnal episodes. It’s the day after the Stars Hollow dance marathon and the town is adorned in pumpkin decorations and fairy lights, but Rory is feeling less than festive after Dean dumped her the night before. But will a trip to Yale with Lorelai, Emily, and Richard brighten her spirits?

A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving (Season 3, Episode 9)

It’s Thanksgiving and our Gilmore girls have somehow accepted four Thanksgiving dinner invitations. They’ve got to visit Lane and Mrs. Kim’s, Sookie’s house, Luke’s diner, and of course, Emily and Richard’s in Hartford.

A Messenger, Nothing More (Season 5, Episode 2)

Things between Rory and Lorelai are still frosty after she returns from Europe. Lorelai is overworking at The Dragonfly Inn but Sookie steps in and pushes her to take some well-needed time off. Rory takes a bold step and writes to Dean, but the letter ends up in the wrong hands.
