There’s a Batgirl movie on the cards and the director makes us VERY happy

Niamh Maher

Batgirl is finally coming out of Batman and Robin’s shadow.

She’s the crimefighting, slightly moody, and historically less important (we don’t think so) third member of the caped crusader gang. And although Batman and Robin have both had their fair share of movies made (some less memorable than others) Batgirl has never had her solo moment in the spotlight. Until now.

According to Variety, a standalone movie is in the pipeline for Warner Bros. and the director and writer attached to the project is none other than Joss Whedon, if we know ANYONE who’s all about female empowerment and kicking serious a** it’s the man who brought us BUFFY.

Batgirl first appeared in DC Comics in 1967 as Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon.

The Batgirl project will be the second movie from DC Films to star a female lead after Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman,” which opens June 2.

We can’t even THINK about who they might cast as it gets us too excited.

Time to shine Batgirl!
