The most popular wedding day in Ireland has been revealed, and you may be surprised.
The Central Statistics Office has confirmed that the most popular date to get married is New Year's Eve, December 31st.
The CSO team examined all the weddings that took place between 2011 and 2024 and found that August and December were the most popular months for Irish weddings.
The CSO’s Data Visualisation App on Popular Weddings Dates showed that December was surprisingly popular with Irish couples, with the top five wedding dates being in the final month of the year.
On average, 189 weddings took place on New Year's Eve between 2011 and 2024.

When it comes to unpopular wedding days, December 24th and December 26th proved to be extremely unpopular among newlyweds. Between 2011 and 2024, an average of four marriages took place on December 24th, and no marriages were recorded on December 25th.
The CSO confirmed that most marriages in Ireland occur at the height of our Irish summer or those months closest to it. On average, the top five most popular months to get married were August (2,733), July (2,446), September (2,333), June (2,073), and October (1,855).
The average age of brides and grooms stood at 35.9 years for brides and 37.7 years for grooms.
Friday was the most popular day to get married, and Tuesday was the least popular. August was the most popular month to wed for opposite-sex couples, while September was the most popular month for same-sex couples to marry in 2024. January was the least popular month for all couples to tie the knot.
