Amy Schumer shares her IVF journey and how other mums have helped her

Melissa Carton

Becoming pregnant is not always easy.

I fell pregnant very easily on my first child but when we decided to have a second baby we started to run into struggles.

During our journey to have another child I went through a miscarriage and even when I did become pregnant with my daughter there were complications that had to be monitored. It was an extremely stressful time.

Many Irish couples deal with fertility issues leading to a rise in the number of couples seeking out IVF.

Still there are lots of things that many parents hoping to use IVF don’t know which is why it’s fantastic when those who are going through the treatment or have gone through IVF to speak about their experience.

Recently actress Amy Schumer posted that she had begun her IVF journey and wanted to let other women know that they are not alone.

Hey! So ivf went like this for us. They retrieved 35 eggs from me. Not bad for the old gal right? Then 26 fertilized! Whoah right? For all of those we got 1 normal embryo from that and 2 low level mosaic (mosaic means there are some abnormal cells but can still lead to a healthy baby) So we feel lucky we got 1! But what a drop off right? Anyway I have so appreciated everyone sharing their Ivf stories with me. They made me feel empowered and supported. So I wanted to tell you how mine went down. So many women go through many rounds of ivf which is painful and mentally grueling. I heard from hundreds of women about my their miscarriages and struggles and also many hopeful stories about how after rounds and rounds of ivf it worked!! It has been really encouraging. Thank you. Anyway I am so grateful for our son and that we have the resources to get help in this way. I just wanted to share and send love and strength to all of the warrior women who go through this process. ??? my number is in my bio if you are open to text me your experience or whatever you feel like. I read them when I can’t sleep or have time ?

Already a mother to son Gene, like myself, Schumer and her partner came up against difficulties when trying to conceive again and have chosen to go down the route of IVF.

Schumer also thanked all the mums who gave her advice and shared their IVF stories with her and told mums beginning IVF to reach out to her if they needed any help;

Hundreds of Irish couples go through IVF every year and if you feel like you are having difficulty conceiving you should consult your doctor.
