The journalist told Tommy Tiernan that she is a “fairly full-blooded woman”.

Newsreader Anne Doyle has received praise for her appearance on the Tommy Tiernan Show over the weekend.

On Saturday evening, Doyle joined the comedian for an honest discussion about her life, career and relationships.

During the interview, the TV personality outlined her decision not to have children.

“Many women particularly have this issue of what’s generally described as the ‘ticking of the biological clock’ and I say that with respect because it’s a very important consideration for women,” she said.

“I simply didn’t have that so it wasn’t an issue for me. Why? I have no idea.”

Doyle added that she believes she gives off a “cold” or “clinical” perception simply because she doesn’t want to have children.

“I just never really particularly wanted to have children,” she said. “And I’m not alone in that. There are many women who for one reason or another simply don’t chose to have children.”

She continued: “They live their lives differently and that brings its own joys and blessings. And I suppose it also brings it own sadness and loneliness but everything you do in life will bring the flip coin.”

Additionally, Doyle spoke passionately about her career as a newsreader.

She said: “It’s an occupation I was honoured to do and I have huge regard for the people that do it.”

Anne also told Tiernan that she “frankly didn’t see the point” in marrying.

“I wasn’t reared by a Mrs Bennet,” she said. “It didn’t cross my mind that the best thing I could do was find the best marriage prospect.”

Anne Doyle’s interview with Tommy Tiernan went down well with viewers. Many Twitter users called her “inimitable”, “eloquent” and a “legend”.

Tommy Tiernan’s interview with Anne Doyle is available to watch on the RTE Player.
