Booksmart‘s Beanie Feldstein has joined Grey’s Anatomy.

The actress will be playing Tess Desmond, a new intern at Grey Sloan Memorial. Grey’s confirmed the news on Wednesday, as they shared a sneak peek of this week’s episode.

In the clip, her character introduces herself to Dr. Richard Webber as he’s practicing his laparoscopic skills ahead of a surgery.

“Haven’t you done a million of those? Why are you practicing?” she asks him.

Richard points out that he’s experienced at the surgery because of his practice.

“I just don’t get it. Those residents, they work their butts off, they go into a mountain of debt all for a chance at the greatest job on the planet, and they treat it like it’s retail,” Tess says.

And it seems like she’s impressed the veteran doctor, who moves aside and tells her to put her own skills to the test.

It’s not clear how long Tess will be around for – but we’re hoping it will be for a while.

The 26-year-old is joining Grey’s after Justin Chambers, who has played Alex Karev since the start of the series, announced he had left the long-running medical drama.

“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” he said in a statement last month.

“For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”
