Boris Johnson and Carrie Symonds are expecting their first child together and have gotten engaged.

A spokesperson for the couple, who have been living together in 10 Downing Street since July last year, confirmed the news.

“The prime minister and Miss Symonds are very pleased to announce their engagement and that they are expecting a baby in the early summer,” they said [via Sky News].

A source inside Downing Street told The Sun that the parents-to-be  are “delighted” by the happy news.

“They have both known for a while but have kept it under wraps until the pregnancy progressed,” an insider told the publication.

Carrie became the first unmarried partner of a sitting Prime Minister to live on Downing Street last year, with the pair since adopting an adorable dog Dilyn.

“It partly explains why he has been lying low recently – although he works flat out and that won’t change. Carrie is thrilled and she will also continue to work on her environmental projects.”

Boris shares four children – Lara, Milo, Cassie and Theodore – with his second wife, Marina Wheeler. The couple were married in 1993 and separated in 2018

He is also said to share a daughter with Helen Macintyre.
