Winning over the in-laws is never easy but when they’re royal, it’s a different ball game altogether.

Not only does your banter have to be on top form but also appropriate when you meet your other half’s parents but if you’re marrying into the royal family you have to get on top of a whole new way of life.

Kate Middleton has been widely admired for how easily she assimilated into the House of Windsor both when she and William first started going out and after the pair got married.

Her warmth and charm meant she also quickly became a favourite with the public – something that reportedly put Camilla Parker Bowles’ nose out of joint.

A royal biographer has claimed that the Duchess of Cornwall wasn’t keen on her step-son William’s girlfriend in the beginning simply because she was so well-liked.

Camilla’s association with the royals didn’t exactly start out well – she was widely believed to be having an affair with Prince Charles while he was still married to Princess Diana, meaning she wasn’t as immediately popular as Kate.

In his book Game of Crowns: Elizabeth, Camilla, Kate, and the Throne, Christopher Anderson wrote that Camilla had wanted Kate and William to break up when they first started going out.

He even goes as far as to say that she asked Charles to convince William to split with her.

Whatever past beef they may have had, the pair certainly seem to be on very good terms now.
