Channel 5 apologise for airing documentary about Charlotte Crosby’s plastic surgery

The reality TV star said the production company ignored how detrimental the programme would be for her mental health.

Channel 5 have apologised and removed an episode of its show Celebrities: What Happened to Your Face? from their streaming service after Charlotte Crosby branded it as “immoral” and “offensive”.

The Geordie Shore star was the subject of last week’s episode, which saw presenters analyse the young woman’s face and comment on its changes.

Last week, Crosby told fans that her agent had asked the production company to not go ahead with the show, but their pleas were ignored.

In a statement, Crosby questioned Channel 5’s decision to air a show that scrutinised and targeted individuals’ appearances in the midst of the #BeKind movement.

“In 2021, a main UK channel and production company believed it would be a good use of airtime, to dissect my physical appearance,” she wrote.

“At a time when the broadcast and media world were backing a policy of ‘be kind’, Channel 5 and Crackit decided to commission this one-hour special on ‘rubber-lip Charlotte’ (their words not mine).

“One quick Google or look at my Instagram page, you’ll see how intensely I’ve been targeted by trolls and how I’ve learnt to ignore the hate, focus on the positive and work on loving myself again.”

She added that the documentary’s whole premise is “immoral and offensive”, and said its broadcast would be “detrimental” to her mental health.

Channel 5 has responded to Crosby’s statement – as well as some considerable backlash from the public – and have removed the documentary.

In a statement, they insisted that they take “duty of care” very seriously, and apologised for “any upset caused”.

The statement read: “While we acknowledge that the programme was Ofcom-compliant, we have taken on board Charlotte’s feedback and removed the episode from our streaming platform My5”.
