Chris Pratt has denied that the church he belongs to is anti-LGBTQ.

He was responding to claims from actress Ellen Page that his church “hates a certain group of people.”

Ellen tweeted a clip of Chris talking about his faith on US chat show Colbert and said; “Oh. K. Um. But his church is infamously anti lgbtq so maybe address that too?”

She added;” if you are a famous actor and you belong to an organization that hates a certain group of people, don’t be surprised if someone simply wonders why it’s not addressed.”

Chris attends Hillsong Church in LA, a Pentecostal church that that believe the bible has ultimate authority.

In a statement posted to Instagram, Chris said that Hillsong isn’t homophobic and doesnt hate any groups.

“I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone. Despite what the Bible says about divorce, my church community was there for me every stop of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk.

“They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender.”

Hillsong counts celebrities like Selena Gomez, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Vanessa Hudgens and Justin Bieber among its congregants.

It has been criticised by a previous gay member who says that conversion therapy was suggested to him by the church. It has since distanced itself from the practice, reports Pink News.

The church’s founder Brian Houston has also said that while Hillsong welcomes all, he doesn’t support gay marriage.

“I do believe God’s word is clear that marriage is between a man and a woman.”
