Rumours were spreading today that Nicky Byrne was going to be representing Ireland in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest

Neither Nicky or RTÉ have confirmed the news thought and even Nicky mentioned on his 2FM radio show today, “I don’t comment on rumours, I never have done.  Anything you read are unconfirmed reports.”

Nicky’s ex bandmate, Kian Egan, weighed in on the topic when he spoke to Neil Delemare on Today FM earlier saying, “That’s a great thing for Nicky and a great thing for Ireland. I think he’ll represent the country very well.”

“He’s a great singer, a great performer, he’s obviously got tonnes of experience.”

While it’s still very much unconfirmed, some punters have been rushing out to bet on the 33/1 odds for Ireland to win after hearing the news, according to BoyleSports.

Aoife Heffron, PR Executive for the bookmakers commented, Ireland has been installed at 33/1 to win the Eurovision and finally claim back the title, having had a tumultuous time in the contest for the past number of years.”

She added, “Nicky Byrne’s representation has certainly excited punters who were quick to stop by their local BoyleSports’ shop to place a bet on Ireland to win on Thursday morning.”
